Just some moments ago i unplugged my printer from my pc and plugged the cable into one of the usb ports on my Thinkpad.i heard some weird noised from speakers.not knowing what it was, i ignored it.it didnt recognize my printer and after restarting the machine,it didnt start up at all.it even doesnt show the'ThinkPad" Logo so i cant even enter the bios.seems the machine is completely out.the lights under the lcd indicate the machine is on or off,i hear fans and hard working but nothing else and the system gets hot after some minutes but there is not any sound or any display.Im not intending to return to US for about 6 months.
my first question:what has happened to my system???!!!!

my second question:Is there any way to repair it by myself?
My third question:How can i calim warranty in UAE?i checked the IWS page and unfortuantely UAE ( United Arab Emirates) is not covered.isnt there anyway that i pay some money so that the service can be done in UAE?
my last question: Can i remove the HDD before delivering it for service?doesnt it void the warranty?
Thank you for your consideration.please help me as soon as u can im so worried!

Try turning it on with only the battery then without the battery(on ac power).
I guess it's likely that you fried the motherboard or some important or wire\connector through the usb port.
A motherboard replacement could be very expensive but you might be able to find a cheap one on ebay.
Look for a suitable external enclosure for your harddrive, then hook it up to another computer to copy any important files you have on it the reformat it if you want to before sending it in.

I couldn't say  It could be said that there was no fault with the laptop and that the fault was with whatever you hooked up to it... Although i think that's probably unlikely seeing as the printer still works?

And you would have to send it in with the original config, harddrive/s etc.

i tried to turned it on with various configs like battery out, battery in, anything but failed to power on.i see the "z" indicatior below the lcd turns on but the system doesnt.the printer still works and its not faulty at all.
if it is under warranty and my current location is not covered by IWS, can i pay some money so that it can be repaired in the country where i am now?

Sounds like the usb connector itself shorted your board. Try this. Leave your laptop unplugged without a battery in it for 12 hours and then put the battery back in and try to turn it on

The same thing happened to my old Compaq laptop. I fried the motherboard with a usb hub that I plugged in. In that case I felt an electric shock when I plugged the USB into my laptop. I tried fixing it and had it sent to a local shop for repairs since it was out of warranty, but they weren't able to do anything because the motherboard had fried.

The only thing you can really do right now is back up your files from your laptop's hard drive. Then give Lenovo a call, they might be willing to help you if you explain your situation. That's really all you can do.

Why wouldn't this be a "no questions asked" fix covered under accidental warranty? I get my T61p with four year thinkpad protection on Wednesday. If the motherboard fries thinkpad protection wont cover it? Thats BS.

I think calling Lenovo will be the only way to get this issue resolved. Hopefully they will be willing to fix it even though you are not in the US.

I think you are supposed to have all of the original components in the laptop to be able to get it serviced.
