    help with ibm r51 laptop

    My laptop wont start up its like in hibernation.I hit the start button i hear everything turn on i get a light for the power on status but i get no display or beeps.I tried to use an external monitor and that sits like its in hibernation aslo no power up to it.I can see the fan running but like i said nothing else seems to work can someone maybe gimmie a little help ?

    So you hit the power button and everthing comes on, but no video internal or external?

    This happed to my ThinkPad R51 before. When I pressed the power button, It wouldn't start up and the power on and battery status icons were only on and the fan was also running and I needed a new system board.

    ty for the fast replys pcxp thats exactly what mine is doing i hear the hd click on and the light by the cd rom turns on for a sec then shuts off so just out of curiosity how much did the system board cost you cuz i looked up some and it was like 400 bucks and i can get a new laptop for that

    Probably the mobo or gpu. The other possibility is a loose connector.

    similar thing happened to me. never played with sleep/hibernate mode anymore. i bet its justa flaw in the function.

    I didn't have to pay because it was still on warranty.
