I have been looking for a nice sleeve for my 14" standard screen T61.

My roommate just got the one he ordered. It's much bigger than my X60s...

Anyhow, which one do you recommend?

    1. waterfield without flap - 47$ shipped.
    2. Timbuk2 sleeve - 25$ shipped.
    3. case logic reversible - 20$ shipped.
    4. ebay sleeve (black outside, red inside) - 12$ shipped.

I like the waterfield and Timbuk2 better. Do you think I should just go with the best, waterfield?

    Thanks.

omg, you're still at this - I don't believe it. I thought you'd have bought one by now - you seemed fond of the Timbukt2 in earlier posts. It does look like a nice sleeve and not at all costly.

Of course, I have my incredibly gorgeous black Tucano Neoprene sleeve - designed in Milan (made in Taiwan) - to cushion my tp from the slings and arrows of everyday life.

But, for those zipper haters in our midst, such a sleeve could obviously never work.

I just googled for a laptop sleeve, whats the point of them? If your traveling a lot, your laptop's case should be able to handle regular movement... as it was designed to be on the go so the sleeve not really protecting much. Obviously dropping it would be a bad idea, it doesn't seem like it would cushion the fall that much because the force still is going through the entire laptop. I would expect a slim laptop bag w/ compartments and better handles to prove more useful than just a cover. Correct me if I'm wrong...

    (I have a laptop backpack)

I know the Case Logic Laptop Shuttle isnt on your list, but i have recommended it in the past because it fit the 15.4" T61 w/ a 9-cell battery perfectly. The sleeve has begun to pull apart on me. It's hard to describe. Little indented dots began to form here and there along the edges of the sleeve. It appears the neoprene has begun to pull apart internally. I contacted Case Logic earlier this evening but their warranty department had just closed for the week. I spoke to another worker there, but he was not able to handle the warranty. He stated i should hear back from the person in charge with the warranty department on monday.

Maybe this was a fluke incident, but i'll have to see how well the replacement will hold up. At this point, i can no longer recommend it.

Thanks. I've owned a few sleeves from them for the laptops that I had.

The sleeve feel nice, soft, but not very thick and doesn't provide much cushion. I think it'll prevent scratches but not anything more than that.

I found a local which carries timbuk2 and has low-price guarantee. I'll check with them soon. they only have quilted sleeve, which looks weird to me.

    I just ordered this!

hi! i think the case logic @ 11+ is great but wondering if it will fit my T61 widescreen as i believe standard screen is 4by3 right?

    Other consideration:
    1)mwave
    2)zeroshock III
    3)belkin neoprene
    4)sportfolio
    5)Kroo
    6)case logic - preferred choice

Just wondering which one of these can be purchased in store at canada or if not online would be fine.

With a T61 having the roll cage all around wouldn't a padded sleeve be more important then one with any strength to it like the infocase one? Seems like protecting from shock is better then pressure on the laptop.

Plus a stretchy sleeve can be tight around the notebook so the notebook wouldn't move seperate from the sleeve. Seems like with a harder case the notebook could move around inside the case which would put it under extra G forces.

For my T61 4:3 14" laptop with 9 cell battery I'm tied between the ZeroShock III and the waterfeild. Not sure the zeroshock has the depth to fit it with the 9 cell sticking out the back

I still like a hard sleeve better. The infocase has D rings on it, so you can use it as a bag with strap, like waterfield. In that case, wouldn't a hard case be better?

I'll try to DIY the Infocase, if the T61 wobble inside. Glue a layer of foam inside. :) I hope it's not that bad though.

I got it for 17$ shipped, can't beat the price, right?

I might as well grab a timbuk2 from the local store later.

Do a search for sleeves, there are other threads for widescreen. A case good for one is not good for the other so trying to keep it seperate

I just ordered this Sumdex sleeve with carry handles for my 14" T61p SXGA+.

Sumdex Black Impact Sleeve 12" notebook

    Capacity 12.5" x 10" x 1.5"
    Dimensions 12.75" x 10.5" x 1.75"

From the measurements it will either be a PERFECT fit or just a touch too snug at the 10" dimension.

I thought about this one too.

I actually had one for my E1505, it's great stuff. But they use zipper on it.

if the fit is too snug, zipper is gonna be a bad thing, right?

Let us know how the fit is?

I will post some comments on the infocase sleeve that I ordered, someone pointed out that it's gonna be too big and since it's a hard case, the laptop will be wobbling inside...

I think either waterfield or timbuk2 (really think the small will fit) is good.

Go for the IBM black outside - red inside from eBay. Cheap, perfect fit, good looks and no zippers!

    / And the cheapest

Just got such a sleeve (but then in 14" wide), it's great :D

You have the wide screen T61 right?

Those sleeves are too wide for standard screen, I guess. But I don't really see a perfect fit one.

    share some pictures?

The timbuk2 sleeves seem like they are meant for widescreen use so they won't fit the depth of the 14" 4:3 if you don't want extra unneeded width. Especially if you have the 9 cell sticking out the back. But I'm only going by the specs, havn't seen one in person

I just ordered a couple of Waterfield sleeves last night, one for my T61p, another for my work Dell M65. Both vertical, with flaps, for my backpack. Will post impressions when they arrive. I'm currently using a couple of laptop "inserts", and they are less than ideal (don't provide full coverage, too tight around laptop and don't stay in the backpack , etc).

With the Waterfield sleeve how would you store the power adaptor? I mean if I use it to carry my laptop in a backpack I'd still want the power adaptor to be sort of attached so I don't need to search around for it.

Also with the flap, I wonder how easy it is to open when the sleeve is still in the backpack. I mean if its stiff it may be kind of hard to open if something is in the way but if its nice and flexible then it would be pretty easy

My backpack has a small zippered pocket on each side, I have an adapter in each one. Presumably they are for my cell phone and iPod, but that's not what I use them for.

I'm hoping to fold it back and not really use it unless I am carrying the laptop outside the case. Alternatively, I'll just face the sleeves in the same direction and hope they aren't a nuisance :)

That's the game plan. In a few days we'll see if I made a poor decision.

jor, say I'm on a train and don't really want to speread out too much, much easier to leave the sleeve where it is and just take the laptop out.

LaptopGuru, for the power adaptor I was more thinking if that extar pocket on the back of the sleeve is big enough the built in one, not the extar thing you need to buy. Wish they would use the stretchy material Osprey uses on my internal framepack and not some stiff nylon, then if would be sure to fit the power adaptor.

I think if you were using the sleeve as a bag you'd want to purchase the piggyback option for another $22. That seems to have plenty of space for an ac adapter and the (sometimes) obligatory ethernet or modem cable, etc.

I really want each to be as thin as possible, as I want to put them side-by-side in my backpack.

And impression would be -- very nice. Each fits the respective laptop like a glove. The flaps fold back perfectly, so I can use them or not. There's a pocket on the back where I could end up putting something relatively flat (ethernet cable, file folder, etc). The inside material is nice and padded, but slick enough that the laptops slide out nicely without getting too hung up. A very nice product, will have to investigate their other products next time I am looking for a bag.

Ballistic Nylon, so it has some structure, but no "card" sewn into it so it is flexible. I could fold it in half very easily.

So is the padding more of a stiff padding or does it seem like it will absorb shocks/vibrations well?

    Thanks

Will do this tonight when I have a tape measure handy.

Eyeballing it, I would say it's 3/4 inch taller than my T61p.
