    hi all,

it's just recently that i found out that my t40 started to have a "problem" in shutting down. now, it takes me minutes before it can shutdown and often times with an error message saying "rundll.exe can't run". any hint how do i fix this error? or this is a virus?

    rgds,

Well, rundll.exe is a critical Windows file. Have you messed with the registry lately or removed viruses?

Rundll.exe is only a valid system file for windows 9x and me, if you have the file "rundll.exe" on an XP or win2000 system it is a backdoor trojan program designed to take control of your computer. For XP and win2000 the valid system filename is "rundll32.exe"

brian, have never touched the registry.

jack, had tried to scan the laptop using symantec antivirus but the antivirus told me that the laptop was clean from viruses (?). had run an ad-aware as well, the software fixed some problems but nothing related to this "rundll.exe". any hint how should i deal with this problem? i'm getting worried now if this is some kind of a trojan.. [ :(]

You need to search the net and find some software that scans for trojans as it is not a virus per se and a virus scanning software won't usually find them. One good thing is that since your getting this error message it probably means that the trojan program is not working properly.

i've just realised that the problem started occurring when i was playing dvd, and it hung, and when i tried to terminate the program the error message popped up. is it possible that playing dvd will cause this problem?

I don't think so, as long as it was an original DVD from a retail source.
