when my T400 is in hibernation, the LED's are still on and i can see the lights next to the LAN cable flashing. This happens only when plugged in with the battery on. When i unplug the laptop from AC, All the lights shut.

Is this normal? Should the LED's light up when in hibernation?

Yes. The lights are most likely the battery light and plug light which is merely to show you are connected to an AC power source.

Can you post a picture of the lights when your machine is in hibernation?

Additionally, losing 1-2% overnight can occur as most rechargeable batteries will lose a token amount of their charge even when not being used. However, if it's much more than 1-2% then something else may be occurring.

You may want to go into the BIOS (F1 before POST) and DISABLE "wake on LAN" and "always on USB" as this may reduce your problem.

are you plugged in and its loosing some charge? If you aren't plugged in then it is most likely due to the power usage required to hibernate.
