I (Persnickety) promised to tell how I'd feel about the resolution on my recently acquired X200s.
Since then, of course, I screwed up, and lost my pass for this site, so here I am in "disguise", reborn. Sorry if that is against policies, but I did try to contact the mods via the contact form.
Anyway, I was very nervous that the high resolution of the X200s, 12 inches with 1440x900 would be too small – especially coming from a 15 inch with the same WXGA+ resolution.
I received the computer and had a slew of problems with the OS being german, so I couldn’t really focus on the "experience". I could have cried, and when I finally had installed a danish version of vista and had everything working (damn fingerprint drivers!), once again was I worried that I might have made an awful choice.
I noticed I had a tendency to sit way too close to the screen. Way, way too close.
Almost a week went by with me catching myself moving my head down to a foot from the screen. Of course I moved back as soon and every time I noticed. I then had to grab some old files from my Mac (the 15 incher I was talking about).
As I grabbed my old MBP from the cupboard I immediately noticed how heavy and unwieldy it was, but the big surprise came when I turned it on and logged in. I had to move so much back it was hard to reach. The text in menus and what have you were so big it was unnerving. Clunky, even.
So, why the pseudo story? Well, as these things are very subjective and Europeans get a choice as to get either 1280x800 or 1440x900 on their (our) X200s, I figured the story would make it a bit more useful.
In any case, the screen on my X200s does not have wide watching angles my old pre-unibody MBP have (my old 2.33GHz mbp is excellent in this regard), but it does have whites instead of yellows and is awesomely bright in comparison.
As other people have said, the vertical viewing angles are quite narrow, but wide enough so that I can adjust the lid so it's okay even when I move myself at a table or begin to slouch a bit.
I won't tire you guys with all the rest of good stuff I have found I like about this computer, but suffice to say that I couldn't be happier to have switched from Macs to PCs after two decades of being a Macuser.
Thanks for your time. I hope the blokes I promised to tell how I felt about this screen will stumble upon this post.![]()
"high" resolution on X200s takes a bit of getting used to
