i saw that penryn is in the t61p now which is making it very tempting to pick one up. i was wondering how are the screens for the 15" model? who is the manufacturer(s)? is there the same duality of screens like there is with the dell m1530 (****ty samsung screens and great LG screens)?

is there any way to see what screen you get before you buy? can you make requests/demands to get the LG screen? does lenovo customer service suck as much as everyone says it does?

People were able to check what screen they were getting by looking up the part number on their invoice.

No, you can't choose which screen you get and for good reason...

My screen is dimmer than I like, but it's sufficient. Overall it's a very good laptop. Glossy screens are simply brighter and more vibrant.

On the whole the T61 screens don't suffer grain to the same extent as the M1530, mostly because of the matte coating on the Thinkpad. Most of the graininess comes from the truelife coating and seems to affect Samsung screens particularly more. *disclaimer: this is my own speculation based on reading the forums here....don't ask me for any data to back it up :p.
