I could handle the purchase if you want. I think I was going to attempt it for another member about 2 years back and he found another way. Another option is contacting the mod who is living in Iran and finding out if he knows another reseller who works in the area.

Well, I think the only other alternative is to wait for it to arrive at Iran, try calling Naghsh, they also accept customized Thinkpads

We would all like to think the guy making the request is a nice, decent human being. But his gov't definitely is not. The ban is there for a reason.
(Sorry don't want to go down a political rabbit hole on this; I know there are opinions on all sides - but it is a fact that Iranian govt is supporting the killing of US and Iraqi soldiers (and civilians; and Brits and other nationalities), with people, money, technology and weapons.) -
1. What type of computer are you using now and how old is it?
2. Do you have broadband internet or do you use dialup?
3. How common are laptops and computers in Iran? Are the computers people use all old ones or do people manage to get new ones despite the trade sanctions?
4. Are Apple computers popular in Iran or are you guys all PC?
5. what about Ipods?
I could go on but I'll stop there.
I found it really interesting that Iran has more firefox3 downloads than India. Especially since so many companies outsource call centers to India.

Iran: Firefox3 downloads= 535,796 Population= 65,397,521
India: Firefox3 downloads= 489,596 Population=1,129,866,154 -

Stay on-topic in here. There is a separate Political forum in our Off Topic section where you can discuss that sort of thing - not here. Thank you.

Don't worry about what mikec said. You can buy every single thing you want from US and get it delivered right at your door in Iran. I regularly buy stuff from US with no probs at all.The solution doesnt envolve me in it at all.

Last time I was there (2 years ago), I noticed a lot of computer shops getting shipments of Dells. I would go and talk to the owners of those shops (check the malls) and see if you can use their connections with Lenovo laptops too

So is it illegal anybody to mail something to Iran from the US? If not, why don't you use one of the mail forwarding services that I've seen Canadians on this forum using?
-
-
Illegal to mail a banned or trade restricted product/components/software, or not to declare what it is and not pay associated tariffs? Yes.
Yes, the Canadian do this, and it too is illegal, but both the US and Canada turn a blind eye to it. I know dozens of Canadians that cross the border, buy the cheaper goods in the US (because Canadian taxes/business laws/gov't make goods significantly more expensive than in the States), and then drive back, not declaring it. Happens all the time. Same thing with mail-forwarding services; they get a box of "clothes" from grandma, which happen to be wrapped around some electronics. Unless they open the box or it seems suspicious, it goes through.
This too is illegal. There are legit uses for mail forwarding (correspondence) but this is not one of them. However, evetyone turns a blind eye, because a the day, it's the person's honesty that decides it.
I love Canada and Canadians, and they their "free" healthcare, but they don't like paying more for the same thing when they see the Americans paying a lot less. ;-) They complain to me all the time, although lately, they are in hog heaven with the $CAN and $US at parity. -
The US gov't and Iran gov't are not exactly on good terms. Even though ThinkPads are made in China, the US is China's biggest trade partner. China wants to keep that relationship intact.
It would be difficult to directly mail a product from US to Iran, I am afraid. -
Ok then. Alireza realize that internet police is watching you and is going to catch you redhanded with a think pad! in Iran !Too bad I cannot PM Alireza but I will make sure to find a way to let him know how to buy stuff from US.

Yes if you manage to meet them they will surely be happy to have a new customer. As for the date and place they have informed me that they will be there. Unless they decide to cancel their presence (which seems highly unlikely) they are going to be there.
