    how do you install a SAMSUNG 830 ssd on a thinkpad x230t?

    SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5-Inch 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7PC256B/WW

    Amazon.com: SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5-Inch 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7PC256B/WW: Computers & Accessories

    i've used the same desktop for years
    never really did anything with hardware before
    i've never done this before so i dont know how to do this
    so i'm asking for advice

    my plan was;
    1. back up all my data to my external hard drive
    2. back up lenovo recovery partition to 5 d.v.d.'s
    3. put in new samsung 830 ssd
    4. insert the 5 d.v.d.'s to restore the data
    5. move all my data from my external drive onto the ssd

    would this work?

    corrections or confirmation would help

    thank you very much

    Basically what you already said is what you should do. The only recommendation ill give you is, if possible, use a 16GB usb 2.0 drive to create the recovery media. This is much easier & faster than burning 5 dvds. This was what I did when I installed my 830 in my E425.

    I like how Lenovo includes the Recovery Media creation application from the factory so you can restore your computer to any drive (ssd or hdd) if you ever need to. A lot of people say to do a clean OS install but I used this method instead & I didn't have to bother downloading & manually installing drivers. It was a very simple & straight forward process. I like how my notebook now feels like it came from the factory with the ssd already installed. If there's apps you don't like or need, simply uninstall them. It won't take long on any ssd.
