is digital on the chip sensor? Or some local sensor measuring ambient air? I have done some mods to the heatsink with some pennies, thermal paste and thermal pad and the temps have gone done (they also don't exceed 57*) on full load.

I've put some pennies/thermal paste and thermal pads so the copper heatsink will contact more area to the top of the keyboard (which is metal and will act as a big heatsink). I've got 38* idle and playing full screen flash movies in my virtual machine the temps are cpu max at 50* and gpu on tpfancontrl is 46* (55* on gpuz and cpuid hardware monitor).

TPFC measures the temps through internal sensors and is likely the most precise of them all, at least in my experience.

    Obviously, YMMV.
