what I mean is actually shutting it down, not sleep or hibernate..
do you do it often? or almost never?
Im wondering if it helps cut the ram usage down a bit when you restart

I just shut mines down whenever I'm done with it. Unless I'm downloading something that needs the laptop to be on overnight, I turn mines off.

I usually shut down my computer before I go to bed.
-
Mine has been on for 6 months, I usually have it on for 6-7 months before shut down 1 or twice.

Whenever Windows Updates require me to do a restart; otherwise, I hibernate my machine if I'm going to be away for more than an hour.
-
I usually shut mine off at the end of the day; but put it in standby if I'm only gone a couple hours.

How many of you guys run Vista? I've been in the habit of shutting my down whenever I unplug because if I hibernate I still get a small amount of power draw out of the battery. It's small.... on the order of a percent every day or two, but it's still there. I've disabled all wake on whatever support and gone through all my devices to insure they aren't allowed to wake the computer but Vista still gives me a small drain in hibernate. If I do a full shutdown I get maybe .0x watts drained after a week (typical small amounts of li-ion self discharge). I can't figure out what Vista is setting to have this small power drain.
how long till you turn off your notebook
