    g'day all,

    I ordered an n100 over 3 weeks ago, and at that time, put in the request for the the express upgrade to Vista Business using the moduslink website. I've emailed the invoice to them...but the website still just says COA validated. Any ideas how long this is gonna take?

    4-6 weeks for shipping ONCE you're validated; i.e. after COA & POP validation.....it's a bunch of crap; honestly the whole process almost makes me wanna acquire it "elsewhere" (and by "elsewhere," I mean CompUSA, of course :p)

    How do I know if I'm validated?

    I have not heard anything from Moduslink since I paid the 10 bucks for shipping and fowarded my order number and details to them.

    I got a confirmation e-mail after I sent in my paperwork to ModusLink after I bought my N100 back in November. Sent them an e-mail asking them about how to go about sending in the rebate stuff after I get it... Guess what they e-mailed back to me. "We don't have you paperwork"... Now how did they send me my confirmation, then turn around and tell me they don't? Just because I asked a question? I'm real suspicious about ever even getting it at this point...

    here's one thing I learned: initially I forwarded the email receipt I have received from my Lenovo rep as proof-of-purchase, and after a couple weeks of seeing no status change on the Moduslink site, I called and spoke to someone who suggested that I scan the actual, physical invoice and email images; I followed his advice, and shortly thereafter, my status changed from "COA validated" to "COA/POP validated"-- which is where it's been ever since; I'm assuming at this point, I'm just waiting for the thing to ship, given that my COA and receipt have been validated; perhaps they need an oral swab specimen to complete the process?

    Mturco11x: that does not sound like a confirmation email to me; that sounds like a meaningless auto-response; go to the upgrade site and hit the "order status" button, plug in your info and see what it says; remember, you must (1) fill out the form and pay the $10, and (2) supply a proof of purchase for the qualifying PC;

    You fill out the online form. The status say: COA validated. You send in your proof of purchase stuff, then when they process that it says: COA/POP validated.

    At this time they send you an email saying: now it will be 4-6 weeks. I have two upgrades in process, one to 64 bit and one to 32 bit.

    Well, I got another e-mail today saying they "shipped" my upgrade... they said if I don't get it in 3 weeks, to contact them. Must be going by Pony Express...

    You paid a lot more than that... you paid over $100 from your credit card... check on the ModusLink site for your invoice. Once you get the upgrade... THEN you have to apply for the rebate, which will bring you down to the $10 plus shipping costs, level. These rebates will be sent out just after the Vista Service pack becomes available. :rolleyes:

    Wait, uh oh. That's what I did exactly. I fowarded the email receipt I got from Lenovo. The status is "Order received" ...I guess this means it didn't validate...

    What do you mean scan the actual physial invoice? I am afraid I threw out the paper invoice that came with my T60 (sigh). and where do I email these scanned images? mstupvistana AT moduslink.com?

    There is one vital info that seems to be missing in their instruction when emailing them your Proof of Purchase (PoP)... and I found out only after I emailed them requesting my ETA status.

    When sending PoP as a scan in to them in email... you need to put this as your Subject line: "Upgrade Redemption Center POP". The email to send it "[email protected]".

    After, contacting them and resubmitting the PoP I did a month ago, I now got a confirmation that all info has been validated and I have to wait 4-6 weeks to get it.

    Good luck...

    So, if I threw out the invoice, I can't get the express upgrade at all?

    no, I copied and pasted my electonic receipt from buy.com in the message, and they said it's ok and they would ship me the upgrade.

    I'm sure you can. I bought a new t60 off of eBay so I didn't have anything from lenovo. But my Paypal reciept worked just fine...

    "A Valid Receipt" is all lenovo's website says for your proof of purchase requirement. Paypal is vaild, so who knows what else is...

    I took a screenshot of my Electronic Receipt for Invoice XXXXXXX - shipped on 12/18 email and sent that image to moduslink
    and with subject line of "Upgrade Redemption Center POP"
    as ehoo stated.

    I hope I get validated...

    huh? my card was charged 10.80 for shipping; I've never heard of this whole rebate process, that's crazy..are we talking about the same upgrade process via Moduslink?

    johnny0001: I would imagine your email will suffice for the POP; if another 1-2 weeks goes by with no status change, I'd call them and try to speak to someone; yeah, I actually scanned the invoice originally packaged on the box that contained my PC and sent JPEGs...that seemed to work;

    drwho9437: how did you install the upgrade? did you try that technique for installing it twice to get a "clean" install?

    It seemed if you just cold boot from the Disc you can format the drive as long as the partition you are obliterating is XP I guess its fine (maybe it isn't even an upgrade disc though that is what it does say). The Disc is branded Lenovo only has the 32-bit on it but really is just Vista only install disc (maybe upgrade maybe full).

    If you boot cold off the CD drive as I said, it will let you format the HD and thus have a clean install. see my T60 review's discussion section for more details.

    So, does the hidden partition get deleted when you clean install with the Vista dvd?

    I want to be able to quickly reinstall XP again with R&R and I don't want to install over XP.

    No the hidden partition doesn't get removed. If you made it unhidden before you start you probably could remove it with the install partition utility but it seems to still be there. I made DVDs first so I wouldn't have to reinstall software if I wanted to go back. I also told it not to activate vista during the install so it won't have used up the activation cycle, I have 30 days to try it out. So far it is fine.

    what does this mean? are you implying that if you "use the activation cycle" you wouldn't be able to revert to XP or reinstall Vista? how's that possible?

    No you could revert, but in a year if you wanted to go back to vista it might require a phone call for the activation
