I've been collecting thinkpads and other laptops that have caught my eye for a few years now. They actually have a use as an htpc on all my tvs, low power esx server, or when I worked with a major gaming company I had solarwinds ipmonitor on a laptop in every room of the house to alert me if anything went down. Some how I've accumulated about a dozen laptops and it was ok when I was single. But the boss, she says it's too many now and if I want buy the t440s, w540 and Yoga 2 pro. For each laptop I buy I need to get rid of one.

I find ebay fees a bit high, craigslist is a hassle for me too. Does Lenovo offer a buy back or tradein program and how are their tradein rates. I see amazon/best buy has one but they give me some small pittance like a $100 for $1000 laptop I bought 2 years ago.

Wasn't there a sponsored announcement on this forum about a Lenovo Trade-In program? (Check the top of the NBR Lenovo forum)

Otherwise you could try posting your laptops on the NBR Marketplace to see if anyone is interested thus saving over the eBay fees.

If your pricing is reasonable, Marketplace on TPF is another free option...but you know that already, right?

I've gone through what you're going through right now over this past summer, and am down to one machine I need to see gone, but won't cry if no one buys it either.

Now, if I could get rid of the dozen boxes of parts that I had accumulated over the years - even for free - that would be excellent.

i know you said CL is a hassle, but it has been the best option for me for resell, just have to be patient for the right buyer and price, deal locally and in public of course (the obvious), don't have any people taking fees from you either which is the best part about it, also if you live near a university of some sort, they usually have a bulletin to post things for sale, this is a good option as well.

please be careful on CL, I just saw a very sad story on the front page of MSN. I'm doing it through tpf or other forums but I, I pack my stuff so it'll be ready for anything ups or usps dishes out, Takes me 30+ min alone to find the right box, materials. It's time consuming, plus taking time to go to the PO etc. I think I'd rather tradein direct to lenovo towards a new purchase or some place and it'd help me streamline my collection. So many options now, It's been a while since I've really been excited, but the ultra high resolutions on the new high end ones are going to make my CC cry.

So far about 60 ThinkPads, and spent about 75,000 USD on ThinkPads to date. You have to know your thinkpad to purchase them second hands, because there are lot of people trying to con you with machines that are either faulty, or not what they are describing. It is better to spend maybe 50 or 100 USD more to get from a reliable seller. As you gain more experience, then you can go treasure hunting.

Also try to find eWaste recyclers, they can get machines really cheap. You could pick up maybe 2 or 3 machines for 200 USD, then combine the parts to build a machine that you want, and then sell the parts off. But that is only if you are a real ThinkPad enthusiasts.

What else interesting do you have apart from that loaded T61p in your sig, jedisurfer?

I've given up on collecting laptops, but you never know...

They just offered me $78 for my X220i. I'd say one can do better elsewhere.

I really dislike 1080p resolution, I've tried almost all the business grade laptops and I always come back to my t61p mostly because of the LG WUXGA. I can only run my 3 main vm's with 8gb ram, I have the rest of them on an esx server and need to rdp to them. I really want a 3-4lb wuxga or greater resolution, 16gb or more ram, ability for 2+ hard drives. And the bottom of the laptop not be too warm. The way I have it currently set I can still scroll inside my vmware vm's using the touchpad, this is a very important feature for me.
