If you order from Lenovo's website, the tax is calculated based on where the laptop is being shipped (at least in the U.S.) I've heard a few horror stories about long shipping times for the T61, but if you order now the chances are excellent you will have it before mid-August. You can find out exactly how much the tax will be by configuring a test system at lenovo.com and then exiting before payment.

One thing about taxes. Lenovo taxes and Dell taxes are very different. Dell usually taxes about double what Lenovo does. I have configured a T61 from Lenovo for around $1600.00 and the tax is $67.00. But when I configured a latitude 830 from dell for around $1550.00, the tax was $143.00. NOW I CAN SEE WHY DELL IS BEING SUED BY THE NY Attorney General.

The tax is not Dell's or Lenovo's, it's your local sales tax, at least it should be that way
