i just got my T400 yesterday and uninstalled all the crap, updated, and installed all my apps. the process took several hours. Then, I used Acronis Disk Director 10 (boot cd) to split the C: partition in two, so that I could move my documents onto a seperate partition. The split went fine, but when I rebooted, some lenovo rescue and recovery thing came up and supposedly repaired my partition table (haha). well, after that I wasn't able to login to windows, even when I deleted the new partition i had made. I had to do a factory reinstall, and am now in the process of updating everything again :smileysad:

does anyone know how I can make a partition without the lenovo rescue and recovery thing freaking out?

    thanks!

I had a similar issue, but with Vista 32. Used Partition Master to shrink C: and create a new partition in the space. All went well but on the second reboot RnR kicked in and did something (not sure what). Next boot, Vista didn't load. Next forced reboot everything was back to normal and working fine with my new partition.

I've no idea what RnR was trying to fix but something weird happened and I never had an issue creating a new partition on any previous (XP) Thinkpad. Thankfully I didn't have to do a factory reinstall.

I thought the default was that the lenovo recovery thingy is off? that's how my system is. can you just turn it off? (just an idea). I partitioned my drive and have a separate partition for files and have had no problem and have never seen the recovery software run - and I have checked that it is off (forever). I use Acronis Tue Image for system images. Worth every penny. I have a set of recovery cd's also just in case, but they are year zero software.

Get rid of the Lenovo software. Its not really a clean boot if you have a lenovo copy of the os with those partitions.

^^yea, but i'm waiting for windows 7 before i do that... i don't have the right version of acronis to make images of my discs, and don't want to do a fresh install and have to find all the drivers, etc. when i'm gonna have to do it again in october. i'll wait it out until then with my crappy disk partitions hahah

Not sure how you turn RnR "off"... I guess you can simply stop it from making any backups, but there will still be RnR-related services running all the time. If you uninstall it completely, will that also remove the ability to restore the factory image from the bios in an emergency, or is that embedded in the bios/recovery partition?
