As I don't own a thinkpad, I can't help you for the webcam.

However, for the sound recording, I'm pretty sure you can use Audacity.
It's free, and nice to use.

To get around the crippled Stereo Mix, you can use a WDM driver called "Virtual Audio Cable" (cf this thread: forum. thinkpads. com / viewtopic.php?t=54671 - sorry for the strange formatting, I am not allowed to post URLs yet).

anyone know the resolution of the t400 camera? is it 1.3 megapixel?

reason i ask is 1. either the programs i use have poor calibrations settings. or 2. the camera just sucks.

when compared to those apple cameras, this thing has poor image quality when using skype.

I hope you've removed the protective film on top of the camera lens.

Virtual Dub can capture from any device recognized by Windows. This includes the webcam, it worked fine on my x200 Tablet. Just go to File, Capture avi, Device (select webcam), pick your desired resolution (I believe 1280x1024 is native), a desired video codec (I prefer xVid), and audio codec (MP3 or similar). This program works well, is easy to use, allows editing of your captured video, and is free.
