Hey everyone. I know how to delete backups from the internal hd using R&R, but how do you get rescue and recovery to recognize backups in an external hd for deletion?

Reason being, to clear up space on my external. Thanks so much!

Can't you just go into the external HDD, look for the RR folder on there, and delete the files directly? Just look for the files with the size in the GB range, and there should also be a date created information so you can choose which backup to delete, especiall old ones.

there is no RR folder. The only way that you can tell there is a backup on it (aside from me remembering that i have a backup there) is if you hit the thinkvantage button on startup and tell RR to look to an external to recover from.

Is it on a hidden partition or something?
You could always burn a SystemRescue LiveCD or a gparted LiveCD and you should be able to delete the partition that way.

I assume you mean that there is no folder clearly being labled RR. There must be some sort of backup file on it, maybe hidden. Try looking for weird file names with big sizes, both hidden and not.

Go to folder properties and enable view hidden system files. Then you should be able to see it. However you need to first take ownership of the file in order to delete it.

    What about a 'standard way'?
Launch RR application, select 'Launch advanced RR', then 'View all backups', then select the one you want to delete. Voila!

@ menos, that method doesnt work for me since it doesnt give me an option to point to the external.

    pocket aces:
when i right click the HD, it only gives me "general", autoplay, tools, hardware, sharing and quota. I searched all the tabs for security but I cant find it. The closest thing is if i right click the drive and there is "sharing and security" but it is in reference to network security.

Is your R&R set to save to the local disk? If so, you may not see any USB hard drive backups. If that's the problem, you should be able to change the primary backup location to the external hard drive under the "Set schedule and preferences" menu, delete the backup from the external hard drive, then set the primary backup location back to the local disk.
