Hello, I use an IBM x60s computer. It works fine. I carefully turned off all windows sounds. I hate them.
But on startup just before windows finishes launching the computer produces a most hateful sound which I don’t know how to get rid of. It’s not a windows sound, surely….I can't describe the sound, but
I think that the IBM x60s users must be familiar with it…So how to disable it?

    Thank you

I am having the same problem myself. There is supposed to be a setting to turn off all system noises in Windows XP, but all it does is just turn all the alerts to quiet clicks. This is totally annoying if I am wearing headphones and listening to music on my laptop while I am working on other stuff. Is there a way to just turn off all system sounds???????
