    i have a unknown device in device manger, how do i identify the part?

    well, which components of your laptop can you not see in the device manager?

    Open the unknown device's properties, go to the Details tab and scroll to Hardware Ids.

    From there, you can see the vendor, device, and subsys IDs.

    Then go to this site and look it up:

    http://www.pcidatabase.com/

    Normally, you can find out by using just the device ID.

    For example, you will see DEV_XXXX, just copy and paste XXXX into the search field.
