Its no secret that the z60t's LCD is dramatically brighter when plugged into to an electrical outlet (not using battery). But by default, you cannot easily select this level of brightness when you are not plugged in. I believe the review was done with the default settings, and yes, even at the full brightness using the battery, the screen is "ok" at best. I think a re-evaluation is in order because the screen was my only complaint.
You can achieve this level of brightness on the go by going to Start Menu -> All Programs -> ThinkVantage -> ThinkPad Configuration. Select LCD. Change the setting Brightness when running on batteries from "Normal" to "High".
With the High option turned on, the "ok" performing screen to a "solidly good" screen. With some quick calculation and with my configuration (1.86ghz 750 processor, 1 gig ram, 7 cell battery [$1250 on sale direct from lenovo] + advanced ultra bay battery), you lose about 27% of time you can go on a 100% charge. Which translates from 7 hours on the "Normal" brightness setting at Level 7 in comparison to the 5.1 hours on the "High" brightness setting at Level 7 with my config.

This option can also be set from the bios.
-
dietcokefriend: where is this option from the bios? could you provide a little more details? thanks.

bump. I'm still trying to figure this out.

I don't think it's possible to achieve the same amount of brightness as AC. I've never come across such an option.
I know it would drain the battery like crazy though. -
BIOS: Config>Display>Brightness>High
And it doesn't drain the battery like crazy... that's not true at all.
