pick up phone. dial Lenovo's CS number. hit "call". ask for the recovery CD. :)

when during the purchasing, can i also ask them to also throw in the recovery cd?

is it also possible to bargain with them and say, ill buy your computer if you can throw in the recovery cd in the price?

If you buy the XP downgrade they are suppose to include it. For vista...I am not sure. You'd have to try on the phone.

hey i deal with thinkpad all the time. i got for a college and all i can tell you is that hey dont send you recovery cd with the new purchase. you may say why? well the reason being is because they have a hidden 4-5gb partition. and that include the software there.

but hey if you call them up and just do a little white lie you can get them to send you a recovery software kit for FREE. so just buy you computer and you can deal with the recovery software. you have a choice burn them yourself or just have send you them

    hope this helps.

hi apoddar this helps very much!

i just dont see why they are so cheap about such an expensive laptop...
so who do i speak to? (tech support?)
what should i say? (i'm having trouble burning the disc? what if they then instruct me on how to do it? should i just say that it wont letting me coz the machine said i already burn?)

    from thinkpad sticky
do lenovo still do this? what happened if the HDD(SSD) fail? what happened if i want to install a new HDD? i want something that has a disc image of windows and everything. will the "burn restore cd" include full copy of windows and everything? will the restore cd that lenovo burn include windows and everything?

Call and ask. They will either give it to you or ask you to pay a small fee.

I don't think it is free. Good thing is that the factory hdd or SSD storage drive will have a built in hidden partition will all the goods to restore the machine should the OS go corrupt or a Virus infect it.

Also as soon as you can create personal restore disks in case of emergencies and to transfer all data to another storage device.

when you create "personal restore disk" will it contains all the necessary software (including the full image of windows) so that in case of a disk failure i can restore from the disk to a clean HDD?

thanks guys, i just ordered my x300.

    i have another question.

when burning the recovery media, would the program also double check that the disk is burnt error free?

If I recall correctly it does a verify phase after the burning.

i just told them i tried using the hidden partion, the back up version i created, and the thinkvantage recovery option and it still did not restore. It will depend on the csr you get as well. SOme will say you have to purchase it+shipping, etc, just hang up and try again.

how do i go about asking them?

can i just be upfront on them about wanting the recovery cd?
    should i use white lie/s?

me: i cant seems to find the recovery cd included with my new notebook...
tech support: yeah you need to burn it, there is a recovery cd creation tool.
    me: i say...
    a) i really cant be bothered burning the disc. takes too much of my time.
    b) i cant seems to be able to burn the disc (coz i dont want to)
but if i say be, he will probably guide me to.... ahh this is so confusing.

what do you guys do to get recovery cd for free? it cost $75 here :(

No need to lie :) Just say you lost you need recovery disks and that you have a warranty. Find the part number of the recovery disks you want on the Lenovo site and tell them to order that for you.

or you have tried that and it worked for u? have u got accidental cover?

Actually, don't say you had them. Just say:

"Hello, I need recovery CD's and I have a warranty so it will cover the cost. Say: the part number is: say the part and then tell them to ship them to you."

If you have Vista on that X300, make sure the recovery disks that were in the box aren't for an XP downgrade.

You could tell them that the recovery set that you made with the software didn't work...
