I removed Diskeeper entirely (in XP: Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs) ... Otherwise, if you want to keep it but just remove the tray icon then there is probably a setting within Diskeeper to disable it.

If there is no option to disable the system try icon through its settings, you can try disabling it via Run... > msconfig > startup tab.

even if you try to disable through msconfig, it still shows up. I just deleted the program on mine.

I would say the only workaround is taking it out through the registry.

Yep, it's the simplest solution if you want to keep the Diskeeper program. "Always hide"

For me, I stop the diskeeper service, and then enable it when I need to defragment a drive. It may be a bit inconvinient, but at least it completly dosen't start at boot.

Don't disable the service using the Msconfig command.
    Don't uninstall Diskeeper.
There is no option to remove the Diskeeper system tray icon

    Do:
    • Go to Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services/Diskeeper
    • Right click on the Diskeeper service, and select / click properties
    • In the dialog box, change the Startup Type to manual

    Everytime you need to defragment:
Right click on the Diskeeper service, and select / click Start.

    Regards, Nicolas

    Is diskkeeper any usefull ?
Should I keep it or uninstall ?
Whats the point of running it allthetime (icon in task bar) if it only does defragment hdd which I do once a half year ?

I use it regularly and would say yes.

That depends totally on whether or not you ever plan to run Diskeeper.

The system tray icon, which can be hidden, is a core requirement of being able to run Diskeeper.

Stopping the DkIcon.exe service will both prevent the system tray icon from appearing as well as prevent Diskeeper from running.

But why is it running, what does it do besides defragmenting ?
