Why do you hate widescreen? You get more screen realestate. Sure, it might take a bit getting used to at first, but I don't see how anyone would want to go back. :p

i dunno the laptop looks kinda ugly and i'm not used to it at all (didn't start using it yet) one of my staff has it and seems ugly

my T42P and few other guys has T60P looks way better than T61P widescreen look and feel

    don't you think so ? :)

I don't know, I've never used or seen a lenovo in person. :p
If the designs are different between the models you suggested, then perhaps it's more of aesthetics/design, then the widescreen by itself?
I love widescreen, it enables you to have more screen realestate on smaller systems. For instance, it lets me view NBR much better than standard aspect (which I'm using now on my desktop). :p

It depends on what you want/do. I rather have more vertical space than horizontal space when I'm internet browsing; allows for less scrolling.

And SXGA+ is so much better than WXGA+ on a 14".

ebay is probably your best bet. I was fortunate enough to be able to custom order a T61p 14" in June. I still see new in box T61p 14" and sometimes T60p 15" in good condition.

I really like the T61s. I too prefer the 14" SXGA+ form factor, but it's not a deal breaker for me. eBay and the Marketplace forum on ThinkPads.com are probably the best places to look for them. They do occasionally come up in the Lenovo Outlet store as well, though they are usually not P models and are XGA screens if you care.

i was going for the WUXGA would SXGA+ be better in this scenario ?

although i don't really feel fitting into 14" laptop with all these years with 15" :)

Bashar, I think you need to find a way to get used to it, or try to find another brand that still offers 4:3 screens, cause going backward with other hardware is never good with computers, especially when more and more new OS and apps that require more resources. Panasonic, Toshiba, and Dell still offer some standard screen notebooks, you may want to check them out.

Dell's D530 is a 4:3 notebook, but it doesn't have the power of a T61p. I'm in the same boat, I don't like the widescreens at all. My machine at work is a widescreen Dell D630 though and I'm getting used to it. I'd recommend checking out eBay if you want a T61p, its DX10 capable graphics card should be powerful enough for now.

I just checked on Dell, the D530 can be configured with a T7500 CPU, only weakness is the X3100 IGP, but I believe this is still more powerful than the old T60p. And I'm sure Dell will soon upgrade the X3100 also.

actually, the t61 standard screen has more screen real estate (higher resoltion) than their widescreen version. I bought standard -> sold, bought widescreen, and totallly regret I didn't keep the standard. i think was like 1400x1000=1,400,000 vs 1300x900 1,170,000. Thats 20% less real estate, makes me want to cry.

It was standard 1400x1050 vs. widescreen 1440x900. So that's about 12% less real estate.

The D530 won't be around much longer. The Latitude E-class machines are right around the corner and will be widescreen only unfortunately.
