i thought the shipping problems where beginning to be fixed...

I ordered a 14.1 inch t61 on saturday. Just found out its not supposed to ship until august 24th. Problem is college starts on the 20th and is 5 hours awya from home. My questions are...is there any real chances of it shipping before then? If i bought a r61 instead would it ship faster? WHere are some places I can find a t61 at besides lenovo.com so i can get it faster(like cdw or others). I need time before school starts to configure my notebook with a clean 64 bit install and work out all the kinks. Oh btw the docking station and memory should be here by the end of the week....how nice.

 

hm. well by the words of other people on the forum, the laptops are being sent signifigantly earlier than the expected ship date. but do look into this more deeply in the forums.

 

i have the same problem...
i ordered my t61 on 6/26 and the EST is 8/17 but im leaving 8/11
id ideally like to get it at least a week before i leave so i can get acustomed to it
im hoping its just a shortage issue or glitch that will get shortened out quickly, other than that, i dont know where else to get it, i want the camera.

 

yeh i ddidnt even order mine with the camera or fingerprint reader. I wanted at least a week to install ultimate 64 and ubuntu and figure out all the glitches. i know i wont have much time when school begins

 

and when you give them a call, they put you on hold for 1hr+
im really set on the t61 though and i dont think im cancelling...
just praying that the date is what lenovo is doing to play it safe

 

Don't pay much attention to the estimated ship dates, or any dates, or anything, that matter. For example:

Ordered- 6/13
Est. ship date- 8/3
Cancelled- 6/15
SHIPPED(!)- 6/23
Returned- 6/28

Try number two:
Ordered- 7/2
Est ship date- 7/14

So who knows?

 

It seems most recent orders are shipping within a couple of weeks. I think the estimated shipping dates have been bogus pretty much since the launch of the T61.

I do think that the 3-4 week delay on WSXGA+ panels is real. My quoted date is July 27th due to those panels. I ordered June 25th. If you're getting a date in aug. it's likely a glitch but a 3-4 week delay for most sounds about right.

 

it seems totally random the rate some of these are shipping out though... :/

i started grad school in may, and thought i needed a laptop RIGHT AWAY. well, i've been 2 months without, and another month won't kill me while i wait for the awesomeness that should be the t61p.♠

 

I would say you would probably be OK at this point to expect it in a few weeks, as most of the disasters seem to have passed, but it is had to say. I ordered my T61 on 6/28 and have a shipping estimate of 7/31, so I am hoping for myself as well as you.

 

Maybe you don't need a computer in college. But he might.

mine was shipped exactly when the est ship date was.

 

its not only lenovo does this, most manufacturers, including dell and hp give conserative ship dates. mine shipped a few days before the estimated ship date despite the backorder. my sisters hp shipped two days after we ordered it even though they told us it was going to take 5-10 business days.

i wouldnt worry too much if I were in your shoes. Also try not to bug them too much over the phone because calling them wont do you any good.

 

yeah but we do have to decide if we are going to risk it and hope the t61 comes on time or go with a different laptop

i know if i order a dv2500t the wait wont be as long...

 

I to live in school without a computer for about 3 weeks. It sucked. It's possible to not have a computer, but having one makes many things easier. I had to use computer labs exclusively which sucks. Besides if most of your porn is on your computer, where are you going to masturbate? Certainly not in a computer lab.

 

As in my case, you'll receive the laptop 2 or 3 weeks after you placed the order.

The ESD is pushed back to protect Lenovo's customer expectations.

6/9 ordered
8/2 ESD
6/14 built and shipped
6/21 delivered

I just called them today and was planning on canceling and re-ordering without the WXGA+ w/ camera, and the 160GB HD which are both delayed and say to call.
My ESD was 8/20, but on the phone he said that it was completely wrong and it should ship about 3-4 weeks from the date I ordered it, meaning 7/27...so there is hope out there

Yes, however its not something to hold out for...I expected there to be software included to utilize it, but alas no.

However, the T61 is worth the wait...its been flawless for me...so far

 

i chose a lot of features that have been cited as reasons for delay such as..
wsxga+ w/ camera and the xp + nVidia combo thats why im thinking mine will take long

 

I had this cool thing going in my room where I created my own tall cubicle in a corner of the room so my roommate would never see me. I have my own room next year though, so score! Never have tried in a computer lab, though the computer labs at my school have video cameras in them. The thought of getting caught doesn't excite me either.

 

my laptop was shipped today! more than a month before its EST...

all that worrying for nothing!

 

Yes, mine shipped a little over a week after ordering even though est ship date was set for end of AUG. I wouldn't sweat it.
