Whoever told you that was wrong. Either drive should work. Make sure you get the right connector: SATA. The service manual, located on Lenovo's site, will explain how to replace the drive. Just make sure you burn off the recovery discs so you can re-install Windows on the new drive. Good Luck.

and how can i make the 2 partion on the disc (1 for IBM system and 1 for my files)
Thanks -
If you use the re-installation disks you cannot. Something like Partition Magic will can do it within Windows.

what about Norton Ghost ? is it copy the IBM invisibl partion or only my partion files ?

The harddrive that came with my T60 is Hitachi. I think if you buy directly from Lenovo for the harddrive upgrade, you'll also get a Hitachi, only rebranded for Lenovo but it would be the same model number with the Hitachi 100GB/7200/SATA, if you check. Only difference is that the one from Lenovo is priced several notch higher.
But you won't go wrong if you buy either Hitachi or Seagate. As long as it is SATA, it should work.
About partitioning your new harddrive: If you'll burn off Recovery Discs, I suggest not to bother with IBM's invisible partition so you could save a few more gigs of usable space in your harddrive. Besides, you could always make a Rescue and Recovery Partition after the system is installed. If you want to make a separate partition for your data, you could always do it aftewards. A free option is using a Linux utility called QTParted. It is packaged with SystemRescueCD. It's very much like Partition Magic. As a plus, with another utility that came with SystemRescueCD called PartImage, you could make an image of the Lenovo Recovery Partition as a backup, (That's what I did, besides having the Recovery Discs) so you could restore it later, if ever. -
Correct me if I am wrong, but the recovery discs will create the restore partition and from the restore partition it will re-install Windows and everything else. If you want to do without the recovery partition you will need an OEM Windows disc. I would agree buying the drive elsewhere from a financial perspective is a good idea.

My T60 came with a Seagate 7200 RPM 100GB. In the parts list they list the Seagate drive with a FRU to be determined.
They list several different drives for different sizes and speeds. I think they include Fujitsu and Toshiba at some levels, but I think it's mostly Hitachi if I recall. -
I can't seem to find the resources but I once saw in a lenovo or ibm site that if you use the Recovery Discs to restore to factory settings, instead of the Recovery Partition, it will make your harddrive into a single partition without the hidden partition.. ???
Edit:
Confirmed. Using the Product Recovery Discs wipes out the whole harddrive into a single partition. You do loose the Recovery Partition using the product recovery discs. Nothing to worry though as I do have image backup of that partition, plus I do have the product recovery discs that I also have backed up.
i want to Upgarde my Drive to 7200 more info
