A flash drive or some form of external media would be the best. OS X uses Journaled which PCs cannot read. An external formatted to FAT32 would be best, as NTFS drives require special software for OS X to write to.

If your iMac is dead, well you need to extract the drive and hook up the drive externally to another Mac. Be careful as the drive is behind the LCD in the iMac, which requires alot of disassembly.

Your Windows computer can set up an "hot spot" (become an virtual router) if you have Windows 7.

The easiest way is the external hard drive option, I would not go for the network transfer option if I have a choice. Personal experience tell me that it is slow and not so easy to setup if you are using two different OS.

format the external drive to exfat, its plain and simple and both systems suport it. And if you have files that are more than 4gb, you are covered (FAT32 has that limitation)

if the imac is dead, take it to a apple store and get the hdd

if the lenovo is dead remove the drive and put into an enclosure, to transfer the files you dont need an app for that, however if you are trying to write to the drive you wont be able to unless you download the necessary app.

to use a network between 2 different OS is going to be a pain, although it would be possible.
