Hi all, I bought this ibm x40 laptop as a gift. I actually rarely use laptops having worked on a desktop for a gazillion years, so some of their little quirks are foreign to me.

But getting this laptop ready to hand over, I found that the screen suddenly went blank installing some software. I looked in the power options and found that it might be the monitor turning off after 10 minutes of inactivity; problem is, the monitor won't come back on again no matter what buttons I hit. Tried opening and closing the lid, no luck. Can anyone tell me if this is "normal" for an x40 and if there's some secret button sequence I should know about or does it indicate some obvious problem?

Perhaps the software you installed is an issue since that's when the problem started. The screen shutting off would not be considered normal.
