I've been all over Montreal today looking for a X61 Thinkpad, but none of them seem to sell it. Microbytes has one that's priced at 1500$ for the same low end X61 that's priced at 1104$ on Levono Canada! They don't even have it in stock and must order from their warehouse.

What's with all the Thinkpad X61 shortages in Montreal?

I *really* want to get my hands on one of these machines, but I don't want to deal with customs by ordering from eBay. I was going to order directly from the Lenovo Canada website (the specials! MUST GET) but it seems that reading the posts on this board concerning it's service, it's completely horrible!

Despite the extremely long wait time, has anyone here ordered from the Lenovo Canada website and RECEIVED their shipment....or have they been left in the cold with no X61 and a wallet that's 1200$ less? I usually won't mind waiting 2-3 weeks...but I'm just more afraid that I'll pay for my laptop and have it shipped it to someone else or lost!

You can check with coop HEC, they have some and can order the others. Even with their discounts, it's more expensive than on Lenovo's website, but at least you have someone to talk to. I don't know if you need to be a student, though.

Maybe it'll be really worth it when the new serie will be out as their price won't change, as opposed to the ones on Lenovo's website.

They don't charge you till your order has been shipped out.

    I ordered Dec 26th... received February 6th.

I received a 10% discount for waiting so long.

With customer support, it's luck of the draw. Sometimes you get a really helpful sales rep and sometimes you get a person who is totally oblivious to the system. The important thing is to keep hassling them to dig deeper and get you a better and more definitive answer.

If you really can't stand waiting, consider the Dell m1330. It's also pretty good!

I ordered from Lenovo, waited 7 weeks, cancelled my order.

Try CDW Canada, ordered mine there, got it next day. Ask for Brian Ma. He is very good and will look after you.

Most people on Craigslist are pricing their x61s much higher than what Lenovo is offering - mainly because they bought it for 2000$ and want to make back as much money as possible. Even if I mentioned it to them, they would still be firm on their 1800$ price and try to profit as much as they can.

How exactly do they verify that the laptop has been shipped to you? Do you sign something when it's delivered to your front door that notifies them and them they charge directly to your credit card which you've sent through their website?

Sorry for these questions...I'm fairly new to buying things online. I've bought a few small items here and there on eBay but this laptop will be the biggest purchase I've ever done online..

I'll take that into note, but to be honest...the prices there compared to what I can get from Lenovo is wayyyy to high...

That's what I thought at first. They actually reduced the price for me to exactly what I would have paid at Lenovo! Just tell them you were getting it for x price at Lenovo and they will match if not better it by a few bucks.

I just tried for the 7767A4U and he told me they couldn't match their price. I built it for 1970$ on Lenovo's website and he couldn't go below 2160$.

    Anyone with a similar experience?

The places that keep notebooks in stock (eg CDW.ca) borrow money in order to finance the stock and you will have to pay for that convenience.

Order from Lenovo and wait for over a month or order from someone with stock and pay $200 extra but get it now. Take your pick, you can't have it both ways.
