Explain to him the extra cost of added warranty directly from the reseller. It is convenient to just drop it off at your local store to have them ship it out to Lenovo, but why pay extra for that.
It isn't that much hassle to ship your unit to the repair center to worry about buying it from a B&M reseller and the savings alone would pay for overnight, fully insured s/h 10+ times as most B&M stores will sell it close to retail.

well, he gets off on the fact that if you buy it from fry's they give you a replacement to use until yours is fixed.....but at the college im going to they have computer labs like they're goin out of style...

    also

does anyone know if you buy ram and put it in yourself if it voids the warranty...some times it voids a warranty if you crack open the machine...im thinking i might try to save some money by doing that if it doesnt void the warranty

I was not aware of the fact that they provide you with replacement units to use....but I don't know whether I would feel comfortable using a machine that is shared for personal use. But obviously, if you only have 1 computer, this would be a benefit.
However, paying retail vs. online pricing is still a huge deal to me, as the price difference for me to buy online was $900 off the retail price for my T61 order. I can almost build a kick-ass Core 2 Duo desktop for that price....which I will do with the saving.

As long as you place the correct type and don't break anything replace the RAM, this type of upgrade will not void any warranty.

I've seen some T60's in a few Best Buys but not all and you may have some luck in Staples as well.

Best Buy just tells you to buy it off their online store. So you would be better off buying someplace without taxes or off direct from Lenovo's store with fatwallet to make up for the taxes.

I'm also planning on upgrading my own ram... In a matter fact I already have my ram and now I'm waiting for the right time to buy my T61.

I was at Office Depot and all I saw was a Z61. It felt cheap.
