I don't know if it's just me or something, but my T400/5300wifi works more stable when plug in with AC power than on battery.
when I am just using battery, the wireless performance is horrible and I have to reconnect to the AP to get connected. otherwise it is just stuck there with "Looking up the host name....." BS. But it works much better when I plug it in. I don't see any difference interms of signal strength tho.
Anyone has similar experience? or is it some sorts of defect?

My U6 has several Power4Gear options:
1. High performance, Wi-Fi on Max
2. Quiet Office Wi-Fi reduced
3. Entertainment, Wi-Fi reduced.
4. Battery Saving, Wi-Fi is a snail.
It is normal for the adapter to work 100% on power. Software does not tell it to conserve battery
.
If, however, your adapter is not working properly on battery when you are in high performance then you need to update the drivers/rollback or send it back because it is broken
.
P.S. We have different Wi-Fi chips but the principle is the same. -
Make certain all power-saving features are off with regard to your wireless card. Some wireless access points do not support power-saving wireless clients properly and this is the reason, by default, Windows Vista shuts off power saving in the wireless card. However, I believe Lenovo, in their infinite wisdom, has power saving for the wireless card turned on by default.
I have the Intel 5300 as well, no power saving, and the card is practically flawless. -
I have maximum power savings on the 5300 turned on and never experience dropped connections.
Are you sure your past experiments were controlled? -
This is one of those cases where they cant be controlledespecially if you use your notebook outside of a controlled environment. Heres Microsofts own Knowledge Base article on the topic:
You may experience connectivity issues or performance issues when you connect a mobile PC that is running Windows Vista to a wireless access point
