It will run vista aero and can play movies and stuff just fine. It works great for everything but gaming.

We're in 2008. ATI and Nvidia graphics card have been working properly on popular Linux distros for quite some time.

It's way better than those nvidia/ati crap since it gives you less chance of procrastinating with modern games while giving you more battery life :)

Its not bad. It runs Vista very well, accelerates video decoding (including 1080P AVC/Mpeg2/VC1), and can play low to mid range games (CIV4, Sins of a Solar Empire, et. al) and supports DX10 (at least in theory). It also provides much better battery life than an ATI or NVidia solution. Overall, it is far superior to earlier Intel solutions such as the GMA950.

Well.. depends on which games... many of them run well enough... simple games of course (Crysis surely won't run :) )

For example I play CS, it runs very good, and lap is absolutely cool, you can play on your feet. Many real time strategies also. So... it depends on your gaming expectations.

ATI/AMD and Nvidia tend to release stuff every few months. then it has to be wrapped/fixed up for compiling by maintainers/distros.

the end result is, if you want to use a new kernel, the ATIAMDNidia crap doesnt compile for it yet, because some symbol changed, or some slight ABI breakage, etc.

and chances are you needed that new kernel for some other bit of hardware in your new laptop

its certainly happened to me over and over so the fact that Lenovo uses X4500 and not Nvidia was a reason i decided against the MacBook Air...

I can run that on a 900/950, so I think the 4500 should have little problems. Anyone know about Sins of a Solar Empire?
