Should I get the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Mini-PCI Express Adapter or the ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN MiniPCI Express Adapter?

Both are the same price. But does one generally perform better than the other, or is one more reliable than the other?

I think the bigger impediment is gonna be Symantec firewall. Either will probably do.

since i was kind of iffy about which card to go with I decided to play it safe and I just went with the Thinkpad wireless card. I have had zero problems and zero complaints.

Since I've never used the Intel card I can't say if it is good or bad, but I can say that the Thinkpad card has been worry free.

    Good luck.

Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Mini-PCI Express Adapter is still pretty new. Linux kernels only support it after somwhere in the 2.6.15 range (Mini-PCI Express is the issue here). Plus the actual drivers are new, Intel is just now getting final versions out, before a few weeks ago, you had to use the development drivers.

You haven't had any increased CPU usage problems like one commentor complained about on the link above? totally smooth sailing?

what system you get? here's what I'm thinking of getting (how similar is yours):

    T60
    T2400 (1.83)
    XP Pro
    14.1 SXGA+ (ATI 1400 graphics card)
    1GB RAM
60GB 7200 SATA (waiting for lenovo to offer again before I buy)
    dvd recordable
    thinkpad or intel wireless

I thought the Intel would be better than the Thinkpad because it has Centrino Dou Mobile Technology. Lenovo said they recommend Intel because of this. What does the dou mobile technology do?

I've had good experience with a Broadcom adapter. but that's not a choice.

Since the ThinkPad wireless adapter uses the Atheros chipset I would say that it is better than the Intel wireless adapter in signal strength and performance. The Intel would be better in terms of power consumption. All Centrino Duo Mobile Technology means is that you have an Intel CPU, chipset, and wireless adapter in the system. That's it. You will probably get a little better battery life but in terms of performance there should be no advantage.

I'm sorry to bump this old thread but i was searching through threads myself on this topic since I am planning to order a T60 today and the Intel option said it would delay my order by 10 business days.

got off the phone with a lenovo rep, he says they are almost the exact same card, just different name.

10 day wait for the intel because its out of stock. i guess more people prefer the intel card

Actually, I think it's because they've stopped ordering them. They are trying to get rid of them so they can start selling the new 802.11n Intel adapters. I talked to a sales rep last night and he said they should be ready in the T60's by "mid-November".
