I spec'ed my R61 without the fingerprint reader as I use it at home and don't keep state secrets on the hard disk. Because I didn't see a need for it, I have not activated the TPM chip. I use Firefox to remember non-critical web passwords (guarded by a master password).

    • In my case, is Lenono's Client Security Solution software necessary? It adds another process, using 12k even when I haven't set it up.
    • Am I correct is understanding that the TPM's purpose is to keep passwords in hardware-encrypted manner? Does it do anything else?
    • If I don't need the heavy-duty password system, can I simply delete the Client Security Solution without affecing other processes? That is, are there other critical processes that depend on it?

    Thanks, ~john

I'd say you're pretty safe in dumping it. I personally don't use it either and am content to type in my passwords when needed.

This brings up a question I have. If I have activated TPM, can I uninstall the security? I plan to do a clean install. Eep.
