    I have a thinkpad wxga+ 1440x990 resolution 14.1 inch screen.

I want the resolution to be greater.

I have seen posts about people with an apple powerbook be able to increase their screen resolution to UXGA (1990 x 1220) via some program or something like that.

I am curious if anyone knows of any kind of program or way to increase the resoution of thinkpads beyond the default, in my case, beyond the 1440x990 on the 14.1 inch screen. Thoughts / discussion!

    Hello,

unfortunately it´s not possible to get a higher resulution.
Every tft has it´s native resolution, everything above or lower will lead
    to a pixel show.

    Regards
    Andreas

what do you mean pixel show? how come the person with a powerbook could increase their native resolution?there has to be a way that the thinkpad 14.1 inch can go up to 1650x1050 resolution?

I haven't seen any program that allows you to increase the max. resolution, I don't know about the Mac one and how it works. What you can try is play with the DPI setting in display properties and lower it, but it will never be as clear as the default DPI setting.

You can't increase the T61 resolution, the max you can go (considering a panel swap) is WXGA+ (your current resolution). WSXGA+ (1680x1050) and beyond are only available on 15.4" panels.

You need to understand how LCD and native resolution work.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_resolution

It's not a matter of software. You're basically asking if there is any software out there that can turn a CD player into a DVD player, it just doesn't work like that. I've a feeling that the Mac software plays with the DPI setting, that's all.

Hahahah, I did not read this thead either. :D

Perhaps he's talking about some sort of virtual desktop, where your desktop has a higher resolution than your screen, and you have to move around to see it.. pretty common/easy thing to do on unix systems anyhow.

They do make 14.1" UXGA 1600x1200 panels. A couple people on ThinkPads.com have used them in T4x machines though I don't know if it has been successfully done on a T6x or R6x.

If you want to go really high resolution, they did make a QXGA 2048x1536 panel for the R50p. Again, people have put them in T4x machines, though I have no knowledge of a successful T6x or R6x transplant.

UXGA is 4:3, while T400 uses 16:10. It probably would not be possible.

I doubt its possible. I would love a notebook that small with that resolution, but the resolutions are native to the LCD so you would definitely need a different LCD panel. Its like a digital camera, the sensor can only capture images of a certain resolution, and to get a higher one you need a higher sensor. Or compare it to a bucket. A larger bucket can catch more water than a smaller one, and the smaller one wont catch any more water if you paint it a different color or give it a different handle.

yeah .. it's not a biggie .. just need to figure out how to input more pixels on your screen

here's an idea: say that you have a 1400x1050 (4:3) screen and you want to make it wide screen 1680x1050. All you need to do is find another standard ratio screen, cut 280x1050 pixels out of it, and glue that part to the first one :D

another thing you could do is this: STFU

You might want to try this:

    apt-get install acpi-thinkpad-moarpixelz
    apt-get --reinstall install acpi-thinkpad-moarpixelz
    apt-get --reinstall install acpi-thinkpad-moarpixelz
    apt-get --reinstall install acpi-thinkpad-moarpixelz
    apt-get --reinstall install acpi-thinkpad-moarpixelz

    Repeat as desired. :D
