I have ultrabay that came with my ultradock, just wanting to know if I can turn it into external dvd drive? If it's possible, what case and/or equipment will I need to buy.

Or would I be more economical to buy an cheaper external dvd drive from ebay.

    thanks

just get an external dvd burner for like 80 dollars from MSY. Lenovo doesn't officially make this adapter casing, so anything you find would be knockoff and it is not worth it IMHO.

I thought the X200 dock uses a SATA optical drive, which use standard SATA connectors? Now if you're using a T61 or older optical drive, like myself, then it's a proprietary PATA connector.

is the Serial Ultrabay Slim using a standard connector now? you maybe right Zaz.

But anyway, most of these cheap ebay drive adapter is pretty low quality, and the cheap price properly is a good giveaway. Most of these adapter is made by the same village factories that makes cheap/low quality ultrabay hdd adapters.

I actually bought a little doo-hickey from it-glasses that allows me to use the blu-ray drive from my R60 as an external drive. I also bought an UltraBay adapter from it-glasses that's specifically for the R series, meaning it's 12.7mm in height. So there's no gap like when using the ThinkPad adapter, which is mainly for the T series. While I can't speak to the quality of the product in question since I've never used it, but both of those work well and I've never had a problem with either.

Maybe OP should consider a reputable generic part dealer that people have personal experience with, i.e. what Zaz have mentioned.

what Nandarou linked should work.   i use one like that myself.

all SATA-based UltraBay options use a standard mini-SATA socket in the same location as HP, Dell, etc.
