A T400 is a much better choice, though Lenovo laptops are generally OK, I've tested a N200 that I recommended to a friend and he's very content with it, although I wiped Vista because it had too many crashes.

Get a refurbished r500 instead if you are in the US.
-
I've never had a single crash with Vista and I have two machines on 18 hours per day.

I'd be more tempted to go for a ThinkPad R400 or R500; the price should be close, especially after you use coupon codes. Compare the T400/T500 too, sometimes there is overlap in prices.
There are a lot of discounts out there that can get the ThinkPad prices down into very reasonable territory. -
Well, the N200 had Vista RTM with no Service Pack installed, it had crashes where Vista was unable to start and I was having a hard time restoring to a prior point before the crash.
Supposedly Vista SP1 is a stable OS, but I don't mind start using it now that W7 is just around the corner.
Compare prices of the machines just to see which ones fit your needs. -
I never had trouble with Vista or with N200s which convinced me to buy a thinkpad. The N200 was an excellent machine.

Yep, agreed, N200 are fine machines, dont take me into account in the Vista commentary, I was never amused by it.

Vista with sp1 or higher r not too bad compare with XP, if u got a newer machine that with 2g or greater ram and core2 processors. it's easier to use, faster to boot and general less crashes. ( I have never had a single crash on vista so far on my x61 and t60.
is lenovo 3000 n500 a god laptop?
