after watching it on youtube, now i am tempted to pour some water on mine, no harm, right?
-
Uh, does Lenovo actually claim it is "waterproof" anywhere?
-
Try it and let us know how you go hehehe
-
Not the best idea. Just watch some videos...
-
That's not waterproof, they just have liquid drains to steer the liquid away from important electronic components
-
Don't take that risk.
-
actual key mechanism of the keyboard is sealed off so water can't get in, but the trackpoint part could get water in through capillary effect, if you have alot of water on the keyboard. But for most situation, the keyboard is actually water proof. By the time you drench the laptop with that much water, your laptop would already have fried or would do so if you start it up.
However, if you really tempted to pour water on it, make sure you take the keyboard off the laptop and do it, if gets on to the laptop motherboard or other important circuitry, your warranty would be voided. -
When did I say otherwise? Or even mention waterproofing...
-
My keyboard is the flexy one with holes all over the bottom. Wouldn't any water just leak through the holes and onto my motherboard?
-
No, the perforated keyboard's holes do not go through the entire keyboard. There are other layers on top of that that do not have holes. Just the metal backing has holes punched in it, unlike the previous keyboards that had a solid metal backing.
-
i will be trying this myself on my T41 when i finally retire it. probably some time this summer actually.
-
Spilt some liquid on my R50e keyboard before...lets just say it didn't work!
-
The term is supposed to be 'spill proof.'
-
'spill resistant' at best it seems. : \
-
Well, I'm never going to try it out on my Thinkpad X61 Tablet because I can see that there's a gap on the side.
-
My laptop was an accidental test. I split a glass of milk, which is alot. After taking it apart, I found some spilt out of the keyboard, but it was onto the touchpad control area on the motherboard. All it did was short out the bios battery (still bad) and somehow, the laptop came back to life 3 days later...
-
If you want to pull stunts like this snag a fully rugged toughbook
its fun taking them in the shower running -
there is a plastic cover on top and bottom of the perforated plate to prevent the liquid sipping through.
IBM Thinkpads keyboard is not spill resistant. The spill resistant keyboard is only offered on Lenovo Thinkpads, so starting from T60, R60, X60, etc. -
Something to note:
Quite specific. -
No, it's described as spill-resistant and is designed to resist spills up to about 3oz. I did, however, drop a 16oz glass of water and ice on my X300 which survived the bath. I was lucky, though. Don't spill anything on it deliberately.
-
Lenovo Thinkpad keyboards are designed to be water-proof only in accidental cases, which amount of water is small enough. IMO, it does not protect your laptop completely, but increase the chance of survival.
-
the laptop would not know, if it is accident or not, water is water
-
Yeah, the laptop would know how much water was spilled on it.
-
If I remember correctly, it was design to drain effectively 16 oz of water. More than that and you may have some problem
-
this where Marketing ethics come into play. Also, every country has a different rule regarding what marketing can or can't do in their advertisements. You will find that in some countries the marketing people can over-exaggerate the benefits of their product, and bring an element of surrealism. This maybe illegal in some countries in Europe, but it is permitted in other countries around the world.
Also, if the commercial is shown only in countries other than your own, then you can't legally challenge them on what they can and can't do for their marketing in other parts of world. -
But it isn't advertised as being spill-proof. It's advertised as being spill-resistant.
-
spill-resistant keyboard or not, water damage is not covered under warranty unless the owner has ADP (accidental damage protection) service.
please understand that lenovo will not cover your system if it is damaged as a result of any "testing" suggested in this thread.
the owner assumes all risk in the event of water damage.
is thinkpad keyboard really water-proof?
