    Welcome to the forum!

It's an OK deal if the machine is in good shape.

Given the "seller refurbished" phrase I'll venture a guess that you're getting it from feebay which always gives me pause. Tread lightly.

Whether it's worth it for your particular needs depends on what they are, and we know nothing of them.

    Good luck.

Judging from the pics, it looks like it's in excellent shape, no dents/marks etc. I'm a college student so typing, watching movies, surfing the net etc are my primary goals. I've been lurking on the lenovo outlet store and there haven't been any cheap T430s for a few weeks now so I really don't know what to do now.

I think that is pretty good tbh especially if it comes with orginal box and or warranty left on it. that's competing with the standard t430 model which is cheaper than the t430s

I'd say go for it, just make sure to pay with credit card-backed PayPal.

    Good luck.

The warranty expires sometime in 2016 so I have nothing to worry about that. I just don't want to buy this now and then regret it a few days later when something better shows up on the outlet. I have seen a T430s with core i7 3520M, 8GB ram, 128GB SSD etc for ~$700 and it was new and not refurbished like this one.

True, but you only get 1 year warranty from the Outlet so this machine is well worth it based on that fact alone...and you're not likely to notice the difference in performance between i5 and i7 given your presumed usage scenario.

There will always be better deals at some point in time. Whether waiting for one is actually worth one's time is a whole another matter.

    My $0.02 only...

    Good luck.

How's the battery life for the T430s? Some people seem to state that it is below average.

yes this is true. the i5 vs i7 dual core is not worth the premium vs the warranty. id definitely want the extra year. after a year your more likely to get any problems.unless you was getting a quadcore i7. you cant....unless you upgrade it yourself and that really depends on what you want to do with it. the only thing for me would be to have the nvs 5200m to play some games more fluently than the intel 4000 graphics. the key thing about what you saw in the out with the i7 is very probable and id say 90% chance it wouldn't come up again. mainly because it was "BRAND NEW" and not refurbished. this must of been surplus stck that they couldn't sell on. the only way will have a brand new one is if the reseller that bought them gave them back to the company because they couldn't move them on. but you are more likely to get a refurb because someone might decide they want to return it but that's not likely.

that's my £0.02p (im from the uk lol)
