I have a lenovo t60 (1952 RV1) running WinXP Pro. it currently has 1gb of ram installed and one DIMM open.
I'm looking to upgrade the ram in this thing - and as i'm looking for this laptop to be a long-term deal, I want to put in a 2gb stick of ram to bring the total up to 3gb.
will the t60 running XP Pro accept the 3gb of ram (1gb in one DIMM and 2gb in another)? it won't cap or anything, right?
this is the exact ram i'm looking at purchasing: I'll only be using one of the sticks and passing the other stick onto my girlfriend. is this the right type of memory?

" mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Notebook Memory - Retail"
thanks for all the help,

Yup, that's the right kind, but note that it would be cheaper to just buy two single 2GB sticks separately, since you're not planning on running them in dual channel anyways.
-
Yeah that should work fine with Xp.... Your memory would be running in asynchronous dual channel instead of synchronous dual channel thats all.... But with today's processing power you would hardly be able to see any difference in using the dual channel feature....

3 GB would be my preferred choice... I bet you can see good difference in performance in gaming and movie encoding with 3 GB RAM....

so now here's the question...... is brand really a big difference?
which one would you go for between the two below?
1. save $10 and get this PQI:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141297
2. or pay extra for the Mushkin name (ignore the free usb memory deal)

3. know of a better deal?
thanks! -
Actually you can either go for that PQI or a Transcend available here for the same price:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208323
You can even save 10 more bucks if you choose Apida available here :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161255
But this is the first time I've come across that Brand.... So better stick with the Transcend one for 90 bucks -
Try these RAM DEALS

Yeah, it seems like the RAM Deals thread was last updated on 9-10. It use to be updated everyday. Anyway, most of the deals were from frys.com so make sure to check that out. I got my 2GB X2 sticks of OCZ from frys.
My RAM ($149 after rebate w/FREE Shipping): http://shop3.outpost.com/product/5284717?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Brand makes very little difference with laptop RAM (desktop RAM is a different story). All of these major brands offer a lifetime warranty and use the same micron chips. Go with the lowest cost that includes a lifetime warranty

Ran benchmarks with single 1gig - 1hr3mins to encode.
Ran benchmarks with single 2gig - 1hr1mins to encode.
Ran benchmarks with both 1gig and 2gig - 1hr30sec to encode.
Windows XP
real disappointment
is this ram a suitable upgrade?
