just got my t42 for christmas, its pretty killer. 9600 radeon and fingerprint scanner. only thing i dont like is that there is no mouse connection and only 2 usb ports, i dont want to have to use 1 for my mouse then only have 1 extra

does your T42 have Bluetooth built-in? Most do, and if so you should just get a Bluetooth mouse and go wireless.
When you say "mouse connection" I think you're referring to a PS2 type port. I'm sorry to say that no existing notebook or desktop computer uses that type of connection anymore, they're absolutely all USB these days. I think it's time to upgrade the mouse []

yeah i figured, how do i figure if i have bluetooth

Hi eric1,
rather than worry about getting a mouse, just invest a dat or two to get use to the thinkpad pointing stick. I sat this because I got tired of always carrying the mouse around and hooking it up, so I decided to try the pointing stick and in just a few days I was more productive and faster with the pointing stick and buttons than I ever was with the mouse.

do you have a link for this pointing stick deal? never heard of it. im still not sure if i have bluetooth though. my model number is 2378REU. its the 1.8ghz with 9600 radeon. anyways its pretty killer and with low settings i am getting around 4 hours of battery time. im thinking about buying the enhanced battery as well.

how many e-mails from ibm canada did you get after you placed your order?
I bought on the 16th and when I called I was told "At this time, it is estimated that the ThinkPad will be arriving into the IBM warehouse early January"

wow. I bought the exact same model a week ago but they told me I to call back sometime January
of course it has a pointing stick but it doesn't have bluetooth.
for americans its esentially a RUU -
wait a minute you bought after me too o.0
I guess since I'm getting a discount I'm at the bottom of hte queue? That still is iffy :s -

personally I use the touchpad and a logi-mouse. THe pointing stick wears out so quickly for me so. I'm using a deall hopefully ibm pointing sticks are much better =) I remember their red pointing stick commercials still.
eric how many e-mails did IBM send you b4 you got it and what were they titled? -
im not sure what you mean. i didnt email ibm but i did phone ibm canada and was going to buy the notebook. they were going to charge me both taxes and $60 for shipping. the total was going to be like 3100. then i emailed the guy from directdial.com and talked to him on the phone. they waved the pst because im in saskatchewan and the computer itself was cheaper. total was like 2800$ canadian.
so far i like the touchpad much better than the pointing stick, but i will give it a shot. -
ohhh okay. that's why you have yours so much earlier =) that makes sense then. I thought IBM Canada shipped you a laptop direct

nope but im pretty happy with the notebook. im thinking about getting a firewire/extra usb pci card or a new soundcard. anyone else done any cool upgrades to the t42.
