I bought my T420 back in April and ever since I didn't clean the out lid, it's all smudged up. I can see that the center of the lid is pure black while the border is lighter in color.

What do you recommend to use? Eye-glasses cloth? I don't want to use liquids, btw.

Do you guys leave the Intel, Experience, etc stickers on the laptop or remove it right away?

i use some microfiber cloth and some clean and clear face toner (pretty cheap for a large bottle of them) and they come out clean, or LCD cleaning solution will also do magic (they are similar to the face toner in composition).

A microfiber cloth for me with some alcohol & ammonia-free cleaning solution (there's a plenty of choice nowadays in electronics / office shops). And removed the stickers from the palm rest after about 1 year of use.

I removed the stickers after about 1 month of use. Despite gentle cleaning with Murphy's Soap and a few other things, very faint patches can be seen, in the right light and at the right angle, where the stickers were. I'm still glad I did it, especially because the stickers were lying under my left palm during typing. It's a shame they don't use easy-peel, no-residue stickers.

Yeah, sometimes it's quite hard to remove the stickers. You will not believe but I used ArctiClean - Thermal Material Remover to completely remove the glue / adhesive and it worked like a charm :) I believe any other similar solution would work, I just didn't have anything else at hand.

I never remove the stickers as it put much more value into the laptop when you are selling it one day, also i think it looks nice with the stickers.

My W-series Lenovo came with no stickers so i ordered some and it looks nice now.

Well, if I decide to sell mine then will likely put the stickers back. Otherwise, it's just much more comfortable to work without them sticking out.

I had to replace the whole palmrest on my T420 and I must admit the clean, non-stickered look is growing on me. I usually leave the stickers on my ThinkPads but I think having nothing on gives it that stealth look, people who're unaware of ThinkPads will probably think my T420 is a 5 year old banger!

A great tool for removing almost anything sticky like tape residue, etc is Naptha AKA lighter fluid, which you can buy pretty much anywhere. It will not harm plastic or other finishes.

WD-40 is great for removing gummy sticky crap. I always remove those Intel and Windows stickers from the palm rest on the first day I get a machine. New or used.

My fingers must sweat WD-40 or something, because the sticky glue rubbed off in a few minutes without any liquids, just using my thumb.

And a few swipes of microfiber finished it off. Removed stickers on day one.
