    laptop did not clear customs?

    So as some of you guys know i am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my x201. after a few days, the tracking does not update anymore for some reason and there is no set scheduled delivery. I just had a conversation with a customer service rep through email and she is saying that it did not pass customs and that i should contact Lenovo and tell them to give permission to UPS to start an investigation. Does anyone know why the laptop doesn't pass customs? Why wasn't i contacted about this? and is it possible to cancel the order even if it has been shipped already? please i need some suggestions on how to continue at this point. i think i might just buy a preconfiged one from ebay or something.

    UPDATE: looks like my laptop was delivered today (7/27) at 9:45 am PST but sadly i was at school. can't wait to use the machine. hope the wait is worth it.

    Lenovo has had batches of laptops slowed down in customs before. It isn't your particular laptop in question necessarily. It just usually means there isn't proper documentation for the entire batch shipment. It generally causes a couple day delay.

    It would be a pain to order another machine and cancel. Just be patient. And call Lenovo if you're concerned too...

    Sometimes it takes about a week to clear customs. Also, I believe Lenovo ships laptops in bulk. Once it reaches the UPS distribution/sorting facility, they will then send the laptops out individually in which case there will be a new tracking number associated with your package. I heard you can get the new tracking number from Lenovo, but I remember having to talk with UPS to get it.

    When there's an issue with customs there supposed to put a little note in the tracking. I dunno...I'd try a new customer service rep and see if you get the same response.

    Because it has "only" been a couple days this might not be a delay outside of the normal customs check.

    yeah that's what i thought too. do you suggest I contact lenovo or UPS. Lenovo has just been telling me to wait a bit more as it is passing customs but UPS is telling me that it did not pass customs and that i need Lenovo to give UPS permission to start an investigation.

    it's 9:00 EST on a friday.   not much can be done right now by either company.

    according to your post here, you're getting the system earlier than expected anyway as it was originally supposed to ship from the factory today.   i know how frustrating UPS can be at times but be patient.   you likely won't have to wait much longer.

    My X301 took a few days to clear customs.

    I'd just wait it out until it clears. Shouldn't be too much longer.

    i hope so but the thing that bothers me is why didn't they update the tracking so that i would know that it is held up by customs rather than leaving it as "import scan" for 3 days

    also i am still unsure how customs work. so will everything pass customs eventually, and it's just a matter of when or do some of them not pass customs and never get to the buyer?

    Everything will clear. It's just a matter of time and paperwork all getting in sync. Government agencies and UPS move at their own speed, and there's nothing you can do to speed either of them up. Forget about it until Monday, and just enjoy the weekend.

    They all eventually clear. Mine had no updates for a while, then suddenly all in a row it cleared customs traveled across a few states, arrived at my local hub, and was marked as out for delivery. The weird thing was, even though I had checked it repeatedly, including only a few hours before, some of the updates were marked as having happened days prior. It's like someone went "oops, we forgot to update, let's just make up a bunch of stuff."

    thanks for the advice people. also just out of curiosity, is there any possibility that the laptop could be lost in shipping and that's why there hasn't been any updates? how would i notified if that were the case

    Of course that's a possibility, but it's not likely that's the case. Stop worrying about it until Monday!

    It could happen, but it's generally rare. Plus, Lenovo ships all its laptops insured, so no extra charges will be billed to you. They would just have to ship out a new laptop, with additional time delays.

    I've yet to see someone here say their laptop got lost in shipment completely. Though of course I haven't been paying attention much recently so maybe it has happened...haha.

    you think lenovo would actually ship out another one if i were lost though lol? wouldn't it take a lot of convincing? i'm probably gonna give it another week and see. It shouldn't take more than 2 weeks total to deliver the laptop.

    i just got off the phone with ups and they are saying that it cleared customs today (saturday 4:53AM). I guess that it is better since they gave me a specific time, but the thing is why didn't they update the tracking to reflect that? does tracking not update over the weekend or something?

    Tracking really depends on the person entering the data. I remember the tracking on one of my packages never really updated until I received it...

    but damn ups emailed me back saying that it's possible for the shipment to be released from customs without it being physically in customs's hands? is that possible? i guess i'll see monday

    lol but at least you had updates almost everyday. mine just said "import scan" on the 20th and no more updates after that

    so i just called Lenovo and they were able to file a request for refund and a senior representative will email me in 5 days. I just hope that they do email. I will probably just get the x201 with model 32492fu. On tabook it says ultrabase for this model under "ultrabase". does that mean that it does come with an ultrabase?

    Customs can reject laptops for many ridiculous reasons.
    For example, my HP8740w that was going to Canada from the US. (purchased from HP US), was rejected because the vendor was specified as HP US but the assembly/manufacturing took place in China. I had to send a confirmation through the broker that the laptop was made in China to get the system released from customs.

    wow this is getting so frustrating. i hope that lenovo reps can help me out here.

    I emailed my inital sales rep about the problem and she is saying that she and her support team will investigate with UPS on the order. I asked her if i can just get a refund, she tells me that she is not authorize to do refunds and returns. So i called Lenovo and they tell me that they are going to file the package as lost and gave me the option either to get a refund or replacement. I opted for refund but he emailed me back with details on a replacement. I replied to him that that was not right but he still hasn't responded.

    do you guys think it would work if i filed a dispute with the credit card that i used? i've never done this before, would i win?

    This is getting so frustrating. wish it can just be all over lol.

    Most of what you see in the tracking is computer generated BS based on what SHOULD be happening. It has no basis in reality.
