I have recently upgraded my Lenovo T60 from XP to WIN 7 and seems to be generally running OK without my having updated any drivers. The laptop is about three years old now and had a sticker saying "designed for WIN XP , Vista capable".

However , I don't do much typing normally but recently when I was I noticed that the curser seems to have a bit of a life of its own and flits about the screen in a random manner from time to time and places the type in unpredictable places in the written paragraphs.

I use the touch pad for controlling the curser not a mouse and I'm wondering if this is a symptom of a driver problem?

If it is and I need tp d/l a driver , what is the official name for this driver , does anyone know?

There's a link in the sticky for the ThinkPad Driver Matrix, which should lead you to the touchpad driver.
