I have bought a T500 and noticed the Thinkvantage package and its backup options, and running my first system backup as I am typing this. I have been using Acronis True Image on my other laptop to create a weekly backup of my c: drive. Is the Thinkvantage backup doing the same or is there a need for an additional backup solution such as Acronis?

Acronis backups the entire hdd image, while the Rescue and Recovery only backups the program. So if your laptop fails for some reason (touch wood), you would need to get the OS up and running by using the Recovery partition or the Recovery media discs (you should create them just in case from start -> program -> thinkvantage -> create recovery media, there should 3 discs), and restore to the Rescue and Recovery backup that you had. This is probably more troublesome than the Acronis True Image recovery when your laptop has a total hdd failure....
