I have to say I am disappointed with the price point. I thought it was going to $439 for the much upgraded model, the 1gb ram 160 hd.... now i'll have to wait for dell. I was so sure in getting the lenovo with the initial price points leaked =\
-
I was kind of pleasantly surprised at the price. I was expecting a more expensive price point. I really doubt that the prices can go much lower. All the netbook manufacturers are using just about the same parts with only a few differences here and there. I think around $400 - $550 is going to be the price for all the similarly configured netbooks including Dell's.
The base config up now is too low for me though. If I knew that the RAM could be switched out easily I would get it. But I think I'll have to wait for reviews to find that out. -
This is very similar to my old Averatec 1020 notebook (10.6"). Of course, this model is cheaper, lighter, and faster
-
why only offer the low end model for preorder?
-
There is a coupon code as well , USPIDEAPAD15 drops the black one ($430) to $364.65.Found it on Slickdeals.
-
$364 is a very good price... BUT it's only 3 cell battery.
And GPU... X4500..... That's got to be a mistake.....
I will buy as soon as i can get it with a 6 cell..... -
I might bite at that price. Does anyone know what the 1GB 6-cell is priced at? Was it $50 more than the 3-cell version?
-
and don't forget live.com 10% cashback
-
the outcome total for me was $373 after using the 15% coupon, price not that bad i guess.. but shipping 2-3 week kills it for me
lol
-
Just to make sure... is the only difference between this lower end model and the higher end the battery and RAM?
-
the higher end also has a bigger hd
-
possibly the low end one doesn't have bluetooth?
-
Can you buy the better version anywhere? wants the betterbattery
-
other than HD, you may be able to buy Ram and the 6 cell battery for less than the better model. especially with the coupon. although, there may be a coupon when the better model comes out too. hmmmm
-
Assuming the HD and RAM are user accessible the better kills it for me. 3cell is probably going to last about 2-2.5 hours based on other netbooks and batteries are usually expensive when bought alone.
-
For anyone wondering, there is an access panel on the underside of the netbook that allows one to change both the hard disk and memory. There is a single SODIMM slot. Also, the 3-cell battery is 28Wh and the 6-cell is 53Wh. I would estimate that the 3-cell will last 2.5 hours and the 6-cell will last about 5 hours.
-
-
toker: looks like you remove the old ram to add the new. which makes me think because i would remove the 1GB regardless to make it 2GB. -
-
The HDD is 2.5". With the freefall in prices of SSD, it won't be long before one can easily purchase a 64GB SSD for less than $200. Swapping out an SSD of this size would add to battery life and decrease the weight slightly. -
I saw the question posted earlier, but I assume this "base" model has Bluetooth too?
-
-
They do. Look in notebooks>Ideapad>S10 series> Features. There you'l find it, at the right of the page. "stay connecte. Bluetooth" or something like that,
-
-
Right. there's only one way to know. I'll put a S10 into my shopper cart and I will let you know. You can see everything in the cart.
EDIT> Nope, no bluetooth. You are right.

Tempting at that price but I'm starting to think a 12 inch laptop like a X200 or Latitude E would be much more practical than a netbook... full power, better screen resolution and full size keyboard. This thing would be cool but I don't think the usability hit is worth the $$$ savings for me.

-
Is the X4500 for real? The combo of the coupon and the x4500 got me to commit, but if it has the 950 I'd rather cancel.
-
-
I'm pretty sure it's a mistake. I mean it's pretty hard to believe that it could be the X4500 instead of the 950. It wouldn't have the price it has if it were true would it?
Lenovo is on a streak with poor launches. I don't see why they would stop now. -
It's a mistake. Just like how their website still mistakingly lists the T400 as having a 3640 graphics card when it's actually a 3470.
-
Anyone know how well the live.com cashback works with lenovo coupon codes, I ordered a S10 hoping to get the cashback, wish I could get the 6 Cell Battery, and a Gig of ram but im fine with what it has now
-
Anyone know why Lenovo Canada does not have any Ideapad notebooks? I would like to buy this thing.
-
This is kind of strange: the black and white versions seem to have identical specs (even though white is $10 more), but the red one (priced the same as the white) includes "Optical device: CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combination 24X Max." Isn't that a bit odd? (To see the specs, you have to put it the shopping cart).
-
if you haven't figured it out by now, the specs pages for the s10 are riddled with mistakes.
-
lol i heard some ppl call them, some said it comes with external dvd-rom and some says it doesn't come with it lol
-
Talked to a Lenovo.com sales rep and got some info...
- optical drive not included
- doesn't ship for at least the next 2-3 weeks
- doesn't have a media card slot (WHAT?? can anyone confirm?)

The angles on the pictures of the sides make it hard to see.
Here are some pictures from the Lenovo website.
Looks to me that the lefthand side is a mediacard reader and the right hand side it the express card port.Attached Files:

this is all turning to crap. i was initially so excited about such a quality mini laptop from our friends at lenovo. now, i just want some hard facts, prices, specs, and release dates. they are probably loving the media frenzy, most likely they wanted to make people commit before the new EEEPC and Dell arrived in a few days. (if they make it out on time) -
Acording to engadget>
"Hey friend, ready for a full Lenovo IdeaPad S10 review? Sorry, this ain't it, but Laptop's initial hands-on with this "sweet 10-incher" might be enough to help with any imminent purchasing decisions requiring $429 in cash. What if we sweetened the deal and told you that Lenovo's netbook also features that very same un-netbooky X4500 integrated graphics found in Intel's Centrino 2 chipset -- no lame GMA950 here, pal."
So, they claim to have one S10, and it has X4500 interl on it.
Waiting for its review! -
In order for the X4500 to work on the laptop, Intel would've had to made a custom chipset and PCB just for Lenovo -- and I don't see them doing this on a $400 netbook. Their machines are usually too conservative in specifications, and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon. -
Here's the latest on the Black IdeaPad S10,
Now ships in just 3 to 5 days, I called and confirmed when I ordered mine.
With the coupon discount the total (less tx, shipping) is only $364.65
Oh.. if you do not have the coupon info it's: USPIDEAPAD15
Which you enter the coupon once you place on in your cart.
Cheers! -
Acording to engadget.com>
"Update: A number of would-be buyers are reporting another case of Lenovo's retail ineptitude. The X4500 graphics appears to be just another misprint -- like those free SSDs and $200 14.1-inch laptops seen before. Hell, even the optical drive appears to be the stuff of data entry error. At this point it looks like we've got another GMA950 netbook on our hands which certainly makes more sense. Our advice? If you're ready to purchase then at least get on the horn with sales and confirm that bill of materials." -
That's more like it, engadget tends to jump the gun too often. Lenovo's entire marketing department needs to be fired. The next S10 myth to dethrone now is the red S10 coming with an optical drive for the same price of the white one.
-
chaos does add to sales for some reason. im not giving them credit for strategy, just stupidity. but as everyone on this topic know, we still love our lenovo's.
US Model Hands on Review w/ Vids -
Any mention of bluetooth? It seems the first offerings do not have bluetooth.
The price is low for the base model but the high end model will probably come out to $500+ like others.
It's pretty obvious it's not going to have an X4500. If that's even possible it would not cost $400. The same with a CD/DVD. Lenovo's launches have a lot to improve upon. It's as if they have people who don't know anything about their products or computers in general updating their site. It really looks careless and unprofessional. -
Note sure if this has been posted or not but Laptop Mag has posted a hands-on of the S10 complete with videos:
http://blog.laptopmag.com/up-close-with-lenovos-ideapad-s10-one-sweet-10-incher#more-3290
Looks nice, and the keyboard is apparently very spacious! My only concern is battery life, but that charger is so tiny anyways. I keep flip flopping on whether or not I should buy one of these netbooks... maybe I'll make a decision after the Dell comes out. -
lenovo ideapad s10 now ready for purchase
