    if you completely reformat your hardrive with a new operating system, does the rescue and recovery partition get formatted or is it still there ?..cheers

    you can format the partition with Windows and keep the recovery partition intact.

    ..........hmmmmmmm..cant remember if i did that...how can i check if the R&R is still there....nothing happens when i press the "lenovo care button"

    the easiest way i can think of is boot up knoppix, and check to see if there are any partitions at all (and if so, if it is the recovery partition.) If for some reason you deleted it, windows XP Pro is cheap OEM. I would recommend purchasing a copy and installing it, all the drivers can be found on the lenovo website anyway. Realistically the recovery is only important for not having to re-obtain a copy of the OS.

    i would suggest downloading an install ISO of either the oem of vista or XP whatever your system came with. it is legal to use any cd to install the software as long as you use the key provided to you for your installation and activation.
