    I've never done this before.
how do I get everything off the old drive and onto the new?

Do they provide a cable or some type of software to do this?

    Thanks

Consult the well-illustrated Hardware Maintenance Manual PDF. Do a search on "xxx hardware maintenance manual" where xxx is your model number, such as X220.

For transferring files, you need a SATA-USB cable to connect the HDD to a USB port. If you only want to copy files over, it should be straightforward. If you want to clone a bootable image of the old HDD onto the new HDD, you need Apricorn, Acronis, or a similar software tool.

    Thanks kaso.

I need to go purchase the cable.
Spoke with Lenovo tonight....the tech said they are sending me a new "imaged" hard drive.
I guess this means I get a hd with fresh Windows 7 and the rest of Lenovo's software on it just like the day we first got the laptop brand new....so I will need the cable to copy over all our data.
