Just received my w520 yesterday. Refurbished with a 1yr warranty. The cooling fan is hitting the bottom of the key board. You can push any top left key with minimal pressure and the cooling fan stops. By picking up the laptop and rotating it the sound varies. I have loaded all the software and it works fine except for the slight buzzing of the cooling fan. My question is should I return it for a refund? I have 7 days, or is this something minor. Has anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts or opinions will be appreciated.

Take off the keyboard and have a look at it first. Maybe the fix is really simple.

Problem fixed! I took the keypad off and found a wire running over the cooling fan. I rerouted it and everything seems fine. There is a strong electrical smell coming from the cooling ports! I don't know if this is normal, It being new? Any suggestions anyone.

Electrical? Sort of like new car smell? It should dissipate within a few days. You can accelerate the process by running a stress test for a few hours and leaving it outside or something.

Smells like something had shorted out. It is a manufactured refurbished unit. The fan is very quite and seems to be running fine. ??
