In this situation, it all depends on what type of router you have. For the majority of people with Wi-Fi home networks that would be the "G" (54 Mbps max) standard. To use the "N" (the newer, faster one) standard you would have to have a router that also supports N.
Basically, if you have a "G" router and an "AGN" notebook card, even though you laptop supports the faster standard (N), your router wouldn't, thus the notebook will have to run in G mode so it can communicate with the router. The situation would be reversed if the router is N and the notebook is G only.
Enjoy the N100! -
On my previous laptop with a wi-fi pcmia "G" card plugged in I get 108mbps ?>

Probably because you had a Speedbooster G or something along those lines Router and PC Card. With Speedbooster and things like that you can get up to 108.
What are you using it for? You do know that internet and all that cannot come near to even maxing 54 right? Only thing it would make a difference for is PC to PC file transfers on your own network. -
ok here is the card http://www.netgear.com/Products/Adapters/SuperGWirelessAdapters/WG511T.aspx
