On the x220, a simple push on the power button does not activate sleep mode. I have to hold it for 0.5 secs at least. Is this normal?

I've always had this behavior on all my thinkpads, T61/T400/X201T. I actually kinda like it, gives me that last half second to think of something I forgot. It also prevents accidental presses.

Check your power settings to see what the "Action on Power Button" is. It sounds like it's set to "Sleep". Its where the Lid Close action is also.
